I’m so excited to see this beautiful weather coming out behind those nasty dark clouds we’ve had here lately. The other day I went out to check out my garden status and I was surprised to see a couple things coming back from last year.
Chives…
And Parsley…
Isn’t that fun!!!
Of course there was a bunch of clean up I needed to do since I never got around to it in the fall. Then I tilled the soil and planted my peas.
How many of you have a garden? How many of you have wanted to garden but think it’s a bit intimidating?
That was the way I always felt about it until last year. I finally dove into the whole idea and was surprised at how easy it was. I thought there was no way I could actually GROW something, but sure enough, I produced everything from tomatoes, to cucumbers, to squash, to strawberries. It was such a great feeling knowing that I was actually capable of growing my own produce.
So I challenge you all this year to grow a garden. This is the month to plant peas so get those babies in the ground. Start small, get a big pot and plant a few things. Get your kids to join in too. I’ve noticed that last year Lily would actually eat ANYTHING that came from our garden. Not sure why that is, but she loved every bit of it, including the beets.

I've started with a potted herb garden on my deck…I really want to do a garden too, but I HATE weeding with a passion. Maybe one day. Right now I've been growing cilantro, lettuce, patio tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, parsley, chives, and heirloom garlic. It's really fun to use the fresh produce! Good luck with yours this year!

I love gardening! I just have not always been successful with starting my plants from seed.
This year I think I will train my children to weed. 🙂

I love my kitchengarden an I have planted peas last week. I also have a lot of herbs, cucumber, tomatoes, Black Berries, rhabarb, strawberrys, garlic, potatoes…
My kids love the garden, too. It's more fun to eat vegetables from the garden then from the supermarket.
I have written about my garden and plants on my blog.

Very cool Crystal! I'd love a garden but we have way too much shade to make it work. I've been on the hunt for a community garden plot but have yet to find one. Hopefully I'll be able to accept your challenge this summer; I'd love to have a garden!

Your post reminded me that my coworker is an excellent gardener, and she just gave me suggestions for what I should plant in my flower boxes on my balcony!

Yay, I love your backyard! You're garden is going to be so beautiful. We surprisingly have green onions that survived the winter and are ready for picking.

Your garden walks and layout look so pretty!!! I'm sure it looks great once it's all green. Hope to see some pictures of it once it's all in bloom!

Your garden looks so nice! I can't wait to start a garden, but I need a house first…which I think will be happening VERY SOON! Shopping for our first home, now that is a little intimidating although mostly exciting! 🙂

I HIGHLY recommend the book on Square Foot Gardening. It is the best. Easy sized plots to work with and you actually get a huge yeild out of them. Because of how you do the soil, it doesn't take as much water and you have fewer problems with weeding. Check out:

Your garden area is beautiful and there is NOTHING like fresh produce. Once you have your own tomatos, the ones in the store taste like……..ick!

No, no garden. I do love my Community Supported Agriculture farm out here, though. I pick up a big box of organic veggies every other week.

Did you start with seeds or plants? I am doing my first real garden this year. I planted some seeds and some plants. I'm really hoping for the best! I was thinking of adding in some beans, I love them.
